I always warn people that forms of prayer and spiritual practice have a built-in self destruct program — because Gd is free, and doesn’t stay in any particular drawer for long.
I read though this twice… partly because the joy and chaos of having two young ones and two energetic doodles and partly because I resonate with this so much in this season.
I went through a phase with Centering Prayer and found it wonderful and then also excruciating at times. Ultimately, it was unfruitful for me.
Currently, I’m following the path of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Letters of Love (see the Substack with the same title) and Two Step Prayer from AA and Father Bill W. I get centered through a spiritual discipline and ask Love what they would like me to know in this moment. When I have time and can focus on it for a few minutes, the response is very poignant and instructive for me life. I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks and it’s been fruitful.
I’m wary of a self destruct program because sometimes I just don’t have the energy or interior space to focus on it. Even though it’s been inconsistent, I’m noticing the turn towards Love more often in my day to day life and the easing of burdens, because in the end they weren’t oriented towards Love anyways.
Appreciative for a space to share with like minded people 🙏
"Built-in self-destruct program". I like that!

Oops! I think I made my earlier reply to you a comment in general.

Thank you for sharing. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I'm also glad to hear that you may have found spiritual discipline for you. That's awesome!
