In my mid-20s, I considered myself “spiritual but not religious”. I loved to talk about spirituality. In fact, I talked about it so much that one night, while we were having a few beers, my roommate said, "Bo, you take the spirituality stuff very seriously. Have you ever considered becoming a priest?"
To this, I replied, "No, because organized religion is everything I stand against".
(I obviously had no idea of the twist that was coming to my life.)
Back then when I thought of the church, all I really saw was greed and the quest for power. Televangelists were selling miracles. Oral Roberts even said that God was going to kill him if his followers didn't raise 8 million dollars.
I still have issues with those peddling spiritual snake oil. But, regarding religion in general, since then I have changed my tune…somewhat.
