Today, I invite you to spend some time in silent consideration. Imagine me sitting with you and asking the following questions. Allow the time to turn into an internal conversation with me. I think this works best as a journaling exercise.
When you were growing up, what did you learn about weakness and vulnerability? Was it okay to be weak? Was it shameful to be weak? Was it safe to be vulnerable around family?
How do you feel about being weak and vulnerable today? Who are the people you feel safe around during those times? Who makes you feel unsafe?
When someone is weak and vulnerable around you, how do you help them to feel safe? What other things might you do to help them feel safe?

Such big issues for me. With an emotionally abusive father, vulnerability for me meant letting him win. I got pretty good at not letting that happen very often — just in time to step into control issues for the rest of my adult life. (This verse has always been a helpful favorite.)
